The Book of Genesis is the first book of the Bible and the Hebrew Torah, serving as the foundational text for creation, early human history, and the origins of the patriarchs of Israel.

The book is traditionally divided into two main sections: Primeval History (Chapters 1–11) and Ancestral/Patriarchal History (Chapters 12–50).

🦖Part 1: Primeval History (Chapters 1–11)

Creation: God creates the universe, the earth, and all living things in six days, resting on the seventh, and places the first humans, Adam and Eve, in the Garden of Eden.
The Fall: Adam and Eve disobey God by eating the forbidden fruit, bringing sin, suffering, and death into the world. Their son Cain later kills his brother Abel.
Noah's Ark: Human wickedness grows so severe that God sends a great flood to cleanse the earth, sparing only the righteous Noah, his family, and pairs of every animal on an ark.
Tower of Babel: Humanity attempts to build a massive tower to reach the heavens, and God disperses the population by confusing their languages.

☨ Part 2: Patriarchal History (Chapters 12–50)

Abraham: God calls Abram (later named Abraham) from Mesopotamia, making a covenant to bless him and make his descendants a great nation in the land of Canaan. Abraham and his wife Sarah have a son, Isaac, despite their old age.
Isaac and Jacob: Isaac inherits the covenant and fathers Jacob, who cheats his brother Esau out of his birthright. Jacob is later renamed Israel after wrestling with God, and his twelve sons become the heads of the twelve tribes of Israel.
Joseph: Jacob's favored son, Joseph, is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers but rises to become a powerful ruler in Egypt under Pharaoh. Joseph ultimately saves his family from a severe famine, bringing the Israelites to live in Egypt and setting the stage for the Book of Exodus.
